WhatsApp now releases self-destructing message feature for Android beta

WhatsApp rolls out the self-destructing message feature. WhatsApp has reportedly renamed the feature's name from 'Disappearing Messages' to 'Delete Messages' before the official rollout.

The Facebook-owned messaging platform is developing a new feature that would allow you to set your messages to self-destruct after a set period of time. The new “disappearing messages” feature initial appeared in version 2.19.275 of the Android app, but WABetaInfo, who first discovered the feature, notes that it might not be available to everyone on the beta just yet.

Disappearing messages might be helpful to anyone who must send a sensitive piece of data that they don’t wish to be permanently accessible. We’ve antecedently seen the feature utilized by the electronic messaging app Telegram, which lets you send self-destructing messages using the app’s Secret Chats feature. Gmail additionally added the same feature in its design last year.

And now, WhatsApp's delete message feature will automatically delete the messages and make it seem like the message never existed.

The feature is still under development, so all Android users may not be able to see an update notification on the Google Play Store.

WhatsApp is gradually rolling up the much-awaited self-destructing message feature for its Android beta version. The Facebook-owned electronic messaging app remains working on this update to produce a lot of stable and bug-free experience to its users before rolling out the feature.

According to reports, a website that tracks the apps update will automatically delete a message after a particular period of time is set by the user.

The feature is being at the same time rolled out on the beta version. Users who have enrolled themselves for the Google Play beta program can download the latest version. Alternatively, you can also manually update the app by downloading it from the app available on the app platform.

The delete message feature works according to the block the feature will be initially available for group chats and can be enabled by the group's administrators. There are five options for time intervals to choose from one hour, one day, one week, one month, one year accordingly.
