Microsoft announces Xbox Series X as its next generation Xbox console

Microsoft announces Xbox Series X as its next-generation Xbox console; the next-gen Xbox previously known as Project Scarlett is officially called Xbox Series X. This Xbox Series X is a very different-looking console than what we're used to, and for my tastes, it's a beautiful-looking machine that commands attention.

Xbox Series X the next-gen console having four times the CPU power relative to Xbox One X. Xbox Series X support for 8K graphics and 120Hz refresh rate.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, joined by Partner Director of Program Management for Team Xbox, Jason Ronald, and all together, they lifted the curtain on the console and laid out their plans a few days before the massive reveal at the Game Awards.

Spencer said,
"We wanted to modify a console where the device was driven by the perform. And the perform - as I aforementioned - was to actually play the very best power, most immersive games possible. We gave our hardware team some real modified design opportunities to mention, think about how you could design something that could fit this level of performance, and let's be bold in what we're making an attempt to try and do to make sure that we [aren't] aiming to have to take limitations in what we wish the console to do, to fit the form of the console and how it was going to play."

Xbox Series X design is square footprint which roughly as wide as an Xbox One controller and three times as tall. Most of the Xbox Series X's ports are on the back of the console. The only features on the front are the Xbox button, disc drive, and the eject button. On the top of the device, an illuminated Xbox-logo serving as the power button, and a slot for inserting discs.

On the Xbox controller, there's a Share button which is positioned in the middle of the controller below the power button. Like on the PS4 DualShock 4, you can use this Share button to easily take screenshots and capture video clips. The controller has a modular hybrid d-pad, making it easier to do diagonal inputs. The controller's overall size is also slightly smaller, and the back of the controller is curved differently.

Spencer explains that the name (Xbox Series X) allows certain flexibility when it comes to additional model names in the future.

Spencer said,
"Obviously, the name 'Series X', it provides us the freedom to try and do different things with that name in order that we will create descriptors when we need to."

Xbox Series X supports backward compatibility for all three previous generations of Xbox console. Xbox Series X will be able to play all Xbox One games day one. Microsoft hasn't clarified the same for original Xbox and Xbox 360 games--but it's probable that Xbox Series X will be able to play all Xbox and Xbox 360 games that are currently backward compatible on Xbox One.

Xbox Series X GPU is eight times faster than that of the base Xbox One and making it twice as fast as the Xbox One X. The CPU is purportedly much stronger than what's been seen in previous consoles.

According to the company, Xbox Series X will continue to support Xbox Game Pass - the popular game subscription service that Microsoft launched this console generation. Though Xbox Game Pass will work the same on Xbox Series X, the more powerful console will allow users to jump into the games they want to play more quickly.

Xbox Series X is currently scheduled to release during the holiday season in 2020. A specific release date has currently not been provided. The software giant hasn't announced an official price for Xbox Series X yet - the console isn't even up for pre-order.

So, as Microsoft hasn't confirmed anything, this probably means we can expect some additional Xbox Series X might be revealed during E3 2020.
